Wike gave the assurance on Wednesday during an inspection of ongoing projects along the Tungan Madaki-Zuba Road and the Nile University-RR3 Road in Abuja. He said the administration was monitoring the projects to ensure contractors meet agreed timelines, particularly those launched during the FCT Administration’s third anniversary. At the Tungan Madaki-Zuba Road project, Wike said five of the six box culverts had been completed. The contractor, China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC), has promised to complete and hand over the project by December. The minister said he was confident the contractor would meet the deadline, noting that it had the equipment and capacity required to deliver the project. “I have so much confidence in them,” Wike said, noting that CGC had continued work despite receiving less than 30 percent of the mobilisation funds for the project. Wike assured contractors handling FCT projects that the administration would meet its financial obligations to prevent delays. He said the government recognised the commitment of contractors and would pay them as funds became due. “On our part, we will not take it for granted that they are committed to the realisation of the project. We will do our own part to pay them their money,” he said. Wike said the administration expected to have at least 10 projects completed and ready for commissioning before the 2027 elections. He added that inspections of other projects would continue to ensure contractors remain on schedule. The minister also disclosed that the FCT Administration had intensified efforts to remove structures blocking waterways and drainage channels in Abuja. The exercise began in Maitama on Tuesday and would be extended to other areas where buildings and other structures obstruct water channels. Wike said clearing the waterways would allow stormwater to flow freely and help reduce flooding in affected communities. Responding to criticism of the demolitions on social media, he questioned the legality of constructing buildings on waterways. “You went to block a water channel, is that due process?” he asked. Wike also ordered the removal of car dealerships operating on designated green areas in Abuja. He said the Director of Development Control was being queried over approvals allegedly granted to car dealers to use the spaces. The minister said a task force had been established to enforce the directive and ensure car dealers move their businesses to designated locations. He said green areas must be preserved for recreation and environmental purposes and that the directive would not be reversed, regardless of the businesses or individuals affected.
